READING, Pa. – The Lycoming College men’s soccer team defeated Penn State – Berks, 3-1, on Tuesday, Oct. 21. The Warriors improved to 10-4-1 with the win.
Mike Coates (Washington, N.J.) led the Warriors with a two-goal performance while Chris Lorenzet (Forest Hill, Md.) added a goal and an assist and Matt Frey (Greensboro, Md.) handed out two assists.
Coates put Lycoming on the board in the ninth minute off an assist from Lorenzet.
PSU-Berks was awarded a penalty kick at the end of the ninth minute and Mike Zopfi notched the tying marker with his effort.
Lorenzet put the Warriors back on top with a goal in the 27th minute and Coates added an insurance goal in the 66th minute. Both goals were assisted by Frey.
The Warriors outshot PSU-Berks 14-3, including 10-2 in shots on goal. Lycoming was awarded three corner kicks to Berks’ none.
The Warriors return home this Saturday, Oct. 25, for a crucial Commonwealth Conference match against league-leading Lebanon Valley. Lycoming’s seniors will be honored before the game.
Kickoff is set for 12 p.m. with the women’s game vs. Lebanon Valley scheduled for 3 p.m.
