A breakthrough fifth-place finish at the Ohio Northern Invitational has helped junior 165-pound wrestler Greg Wetzel earn his first career Warrior of the Week award. It was the first time in his career that Wetzel placed at a tournament. Wetzel started the tournament with a pair of wins, downing Heidelberg’s Andrew Leis, 8-2 and Ohio Northern’s Colt Lovejoy, 6-3, to reach the quarterfinals. After a narrow 9-7 loss to Lindsey Wilson’s Cadyn McKeeth, he added a pair more wins in the consolation bracket, beating Campbellsville’s Joe Whalen, 3-2, and Ashland’s Randall Perkins, 10-3. In the consolation semifinal, he dropped a tiebreaker to Ohio Northern’s Tyler Gargano, 9-8, but rebounded with a 4-3 win over West Liberty’s Eric Antesberger, 4-3.
