With experience as a student assistant at the Division II and III levels, Russ Wells is set to join the Lycoming College men's basketball program for his first year as an assistant coach in 2026-27.
Wells arrives at Lycoming after spending the 2025-26 academic year at Southampton Academy, where he served as head junior varsity boys basketball coach, assistant varsity boys coach, assistant varsity girls coach, and a middle school science and physical education teacher.Â
Prior to Southampton Academy, Wells served as a student assistant coach with the Randolph College men's basketball program during the 2024-25 season. In that role, he developed scouting reports, analyzed game statistics, coordinated game-day logistics, managed team operations, and assisted with individual player development and practice planning.Â
Wells also worked as a student assistant coach at Emory & Henry College during the 2023-24 season, helping with scouting, player development, practice organization, academic support initiatives, and game preparation. He contributed statistical analysis and strategic support for the coaching staff while assisting in the day-to-day operation of the program.Â
He was a two-year letterwinner at Emory & Henry, as the 6-6 forward won the athletic department's Supporting Role Award as voted on by the Student-Athlete Advisory Committee in 2023.
A native of Isle of Wight, Va., Wells earned a master's degree in coaching and sport leadership from Randolph College in 2025 after graduating cum laude with a bachelor's degree in sports management from Emory & Henry College in 2024.Â
