With the hiring of Matt Dunn as the seventh head coach in program history, the Lycoming College women's soccer team began a new era in the spring of 2011. The former Division I assistant coach is in his second year with the program in 2012.

“Returning to a student-centered environment is something that was very important to me,” Dunn, a 2004 graduate of SUNY Geneseo, said. “I think the liberal arts model of education is the most efficient model. Returning to those roots is something I am very appreciative of and I am thankful for this opportunity. I enjoyed every minute of my undergraduate experience and if I can help the student-athletes I work with enjoy theirs as much, I will have done my job.”

In his first year with the Warriors, Dunn began to implement his system, which encourages development, not just as a soccer player, but also as a student and a citizen. On the field, the team defended the Battle for the Lumber, beating Penn College, 3-0. Off the field, the team improved greatly in the classroom, with seven players earning a slot on the MAC Academic Honor Roll.

Prior to taking over at Lycoming, Dunn spent the 2008-10 seasons as an assistant women’s soccer coach at Binghamton, where he assisted with all aspects of the Bearcat’s program.  Dunn was also responsible for training the goalkeepers and serving as the team’s academic liaison—a role in which Dunn helped the Bearcats earn two straight NSCAA Team Academic Awards in 2009 and 2010.

Dunn helped coach four America East All-Conference selections and four selections to the all-rookie team and the 2009 America East Player of the Year while assisting the team to two appearances in the America East playoffs, including an appearance in the championship game in 2009.

Before moving on to work in the University at Buffalo’s athlete academic services department as an intern while finishing his master’s degree in 2006, Dunn served as an assistant coach with the BU men in 2004 and 2005. The Bearcats advanced to the America East finals both seasons, helping the team to a 23-6-13 overall record.

As an undergraduate, Dunn helped establish the Geneseo women's soccer club program and he also worked with the Le Moyne women's team. In 2003, he served as head coach for his high school alma mater’s boys’ soccer team, Owego Free Academy, where the team finished with an 11-6 record.

Dunn, a native of Owego, N.Y., earned his bachelor’s degree in history from Geneseo and a master’s degree of education from the University at Buffalo in 2007. Dunn also holds the NSCAA Premier Diploma and the NSCAA Goalkeeping Level III Diploma.

On the club level, he has been part of the coaching staff for the B.C. United Fusion, a Premier Soccer League squad.
