The longest tenured coach in the history of Lycoming College women's soccer, Markus Rybak is set for his 11th year as an assistant coach with the team in 2025.
In his 10 years with the team, Rybak has helped the Warriors post 77 wins while helping to mentor 14 all-conference selections and one conference rookie of the year.
Rybak completed a term as an interim head coach with the Warriors in 2016, posting a 4-7-2 record as the team's lead charge, including a 3-2 overtime win for the program's first against Lebanon Valley since 2008. After the season, he flipped roles with Kenny Fern, who was announced as the head coach, returning to an assistant role with the team.
Since then, he has helped the Warriors build into a regionally-ranked team, as the 2019 team posted a 10-8-2 record, posting the third-most improved record in the NCAA Division III. Three more 10-win seasons in the next four campaigns have followed, with the team earning its first United Soccer Coaches and NCAA Regional Rankings in 2022 before the squad won a school-record 15 games in 2024, winning a postseason game for the first time and reaching a conference final for the first time.
Rybak served as the head coach of crosstown rival Penn College for four seasons, where he led the team to a 28-27-6 record and two berths in the USCAA Championships. He coached five USCAA All-Americans during his time with the Wildcats and led the team to an 11-7-2 record in his last year with the program in 2013. After leaving Penn College, he spent a year as an assistant with the South Williamsport High School girls' program.
Rybak also coaches with the City Lions Soccer Club and also spent a decade with the STN NorthPenn club program.
A native of Lünen, Germany, Rybak attended Milligan University in Elizabethton, Tenn., where he was a member of the men’s soccer team for four years. While at Milligan, he was invited to compete in the Premier Development League twice. He graduated in 2006 with a bachelor’s degree in computer information systems and he also also earned a Master's degree in cybersecurity analytics and operations from Pennsylvania State University in 2024.
Rybak started his coaching career in 2004 as an assistant for the David Crockett High School varsity boys’ soccer team and he also served as an assistant at Penn College in 2009.
