Coming off a year in which a small team improved nearly across the board, Matt McGuriman will begin his third year as Lycoming College’s head swimming coach in 2019-20.

In two years on the sidelines, he has helped the Warriors break eight school records, coached 14 swimmers in the finals of their events at the MAC Championships, one conference champion and three conference runners-up.

In his second year with the Warriors, he helped 14 of the team's 15 swimmers set new personal bests in primary events. He also mentored Cara Zortman, who set a school-record in the 100-yard freestyle, and a MAC runner-up, freshman Katherine Brown, in the 100-yard breaststroke.

In his rookie year, McGuriman helped 11 swimmers reach the finals of their events at the MAC Championships, with Callan Jordan winning the 200-yard backstroke at the event. Along the way, the Warriors set seven school records.

McGuriman's teams have kept the program's tradition of strong performances in the classroom alive, as the women have earned the CSCAA Scholar All-American honors in each of the last four semesters and the men have earned the award three times in a row.

He has also begun the popular Rising Warriors Swim Lessons, which serve as a team fundraiser each spring.

McGuriman joined Williamsport native Mark Feinberg’s staff at Ursinus in 2011 after graduating from Cabrini College. He was given the additional duties of Director of Aquatics in 2013, moving him into a full-time role.

During his time in Collegeville, McGuriman watched all 38 of the team’s swimming records change hands, including 17 falling during the 2017 season and 13 more in 2018. He also assisted the team as it set 11 Centennial Conference records.

In all, McGuriman helped the Bears to a 116-33 dual-meet record in his last five years at the school while coaching 35 individual champions and 24 relay champions. Three Bears were named the Centennial Conference Swimmer of the Year and two earned Rookie of the Year accolades.

The women’s team set a Centennial Conference record with 928 points during its 2018 championship run, as the Bears won their fifth straight conference crown while its relay teams broke four conference records. The men’s team finished fifth at the conference meet, as the Bears featured three all-conference performers.

The Bears have also moved into the national spotlight, finishing in the top 30 at the NCAA Women’s Swimming & Diving Championships in each of the last two seasons, as the team has acquired 10 All-Americans and eight CSCAA Scholar All-Americans in McGuriman’s time with the team.

McGuriman was a three-year letterwinner at Cabrini College, where he is still the school record-holder in the 200-yard breaststroke, while his 100-yard breaststroke mark stood for seven seasons before it was broken in 2018. He is also a part of two relay squads that still hold school records. As a senior, McGuriman earned second-team all-conference honors in the 50-yard freestyle and he also helped the Cavaliers qualify for the ECAC Championships in the 400-yard freestyle relay for the first time in program history.

A native of Hatfield, Pa., McGuriman earned a Bachelor of Arts in English from Cabrini in 2011. He resides in Loyalsock.
