John Schwien

Former Bucknell University assistant coach and two-time All-American John Schwien is set for his second year as the 10th head coach in the 68-year history of the Lycoming College men's soccer program history in 2025.
 
Schwien helped the Warriors to their third straight 10-win season in 2025 as the team finished 10-5-5 and reached the Landmark Conference Championship for the second time. He helped the team post seven shutouts and coached four all-conference selections and two-all-region honorees.
 
He spent the past two seasons as an assistant coach at Bucknell University, working under legendary head coach Dave Brandt. With the Bison, Schwien has helped mentor on All-Patriot League selection and two Academic All-Patriot League picks. He has been a Division I assistant for four years, as he worked the two seasons prior to that at IUPUI in the Horizon League, where he helped the 2021 team post the best goals-against average for the Jaguars in a decade.
 
Prior to his stint with the Jaguars, Schwien was a graduate assistant for two seasons at Lock Haven University, where he was part of the Bald Eagles' 2018 team that won an ECAC championship. Schwien was key in the recruitment of All-American Andrea DiSomma for the Bald Eagles.
 
Schwien earned a pair of All-American citations from the NCCAA at Division II Cedarville University. He was a three-time All-Great Midwest Athletic Conference selection and a two-time First Team OCSA All-Ohio Division II selection. He was also named to the All-GMAC Academic Team three times and was a two-time OCSA All-Ohio DII Academic Team pick.
 
Along with semi-professional playing experience with the Crew's U23 team, Dayton Dutch Lions, and Buxmont Torch FC, Schwien also has an extensive coaching background at the elite club level, where he has coached with the Dayton Dutch Lions and Penn Fusion Soccer Academy. He holds a USSF 'D' Coaching License.
 
Schwien earned a Bachelor of Arts in business management from Cedarville University in 2018 and a Master of Science in sport administration from Lock Haven University in 2019. He and wife, Katherine, have two daughters, Riley and Ruby, and reside in Lewisburg.
