With deep roots in NCAA Division III men’s soccer as a player, assistant and head coach, Doug Stahl is set to enter his second year as head coach at Lycoming College.

In his first year with the Warriors, Stahl became the first rookie head coach to lead the Warriors to a winning record in school history, finishing 9-8-2. Along the way, the Warriors won the Battle of the Boot, with an exciting 1-0 overtime victory against rival Susquehanna, and stayed in the race for a Commonwealth Conference playoff slot until the final game of the season. He also coached midfielder Charlie Vess to all-conference honors.

Prior to Lycoming, Stahl spent 11 years as head coach at Mount Saint Mary College in Newburgh, N.Y., where he left the men’s soccer program as the all-time leader in coaching wins. Stahl consistently kept the Knights in contention in the Skyline Conference, earning the league’s Coach of the Year honors in 2008 after guiding the team to a 10-10 overall record and a 7-2 mark in the league. He also helped the team to its first playoff victory, 2-0, over SUNY Maritime during that season and helped the Knights qualify for the East Coast Athletic Conference Metro Region Tournament for the first time in program history.

During his time at the college, he helped the Knights reach the conference playoffs four times and his teams finished one spot outside the playoff picture on four more occasions.

In all, he produced 10-win seasons in 2006 and 2008 as he racked up 74 wins. He guided the Knights to the Skyline Conference semifinals in two of his first three seasons. His teams produced 13 all-conference selections and two all-region picks.

His teams were filled with hard-nosed goalkeepers, as Kyle Reiss finished 2006 eighth in the nation in saves per game (9.33) and seventh in save percentage (89.6) while he set a school record for goals-against average (1.16). In 2009, Paul Aries finished amongst the national leaders in save percentage and in 2010, Matthew Darling was ranked amongst national leaders in both saves per game and save percentage.

Stahl also placed a high-priority on academics, helping the team go from one Skyline Conference Scholar-Athlete in 2006 to a high-water mark of six honorees in 2009. His teams were also active in the community, working with children with learning disabilities and volunteering for Habitat for Humanity.

Along with his duties at Mount Saint Mary, Stahl also served as an instructor in the physical education department and as director of coaching at the Orange County Soccer Club.

From 1997 to 1999, Stahl worked as an assistant coach at Manchester College in Indiana, helping the Spartans to one appearance in the Indiana Collegiate Athletic Conference finals and two Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference semifinals. In 1998, he helped the Spartans recover from a 1-6 start to finish the season with a .500 record, as the head coach, Dave Good, was named the HCAC Coach of the Year. Stahl also served as an assistant coach at Northrop High School (Indiana) from 1988 through 1992.

Stahl graduated from Manchester College in 1996 with a bachelor’s degree in elementary education.  While at Manchester, Stahl was a four-year varsity soccer player, serving as a team captain. He was selected First Team All-ICAC as a senior.

A two-time member of the NCAA East Regional Ranking Committee, Stahl has also served on the National Soccer Coaches Association of America Regional Ranking Committee. He earned his premier coaching license from the NSCAA in January 2003.

Stahl has a wife, Jody, and three daughters: Ava, Sophia and Hannah.
