COLLEGEVILLE, Pa. – Sophomore
Vinny Tartaglia (Bernville, Pa./Tulpehocken Area) netted the game-winning goal in the 69
th minute for the Lycoming College men's soccer team, which opened its 2026 season with a 2-1 win at Ursinus College on Tuesday, Sept. 1.
After a scoreless first half, the Warriors (1-0 overall) got on the board when junior
Jake Keeney (Selinsgrove, Pa./Selinsgrove Area) sneaked a 30-yarder into the right corner of the net off a give from sophomore
Matthew Sweeney (West Chester, Pa./West Chester East) in the 50
th minute.
Ursinus (0-1 overall) answered back 10 minutes later, but Tartaglia scored the game-winner after getting a nifty behind-the-back touch pass from Sweeney before he drove into the box, dove and fired a shot off the left crossbar and into the net in the 70
th minute.
Junior
Jace Bennett (Falling Waters, W.Va./Spring Mills) posted four saves to earn the win. Jaden Ottley stopped five shots for the Bears.
The Warriors are back in action on Friday, Sept. 4, when they host Penn State-Harrisburg in a 7 p.m., game at UPMC Field.
