Lycoming falls to Dickinson

CARLISLE, Pa. — The Lycoming College football team fell to Dickinson 40-21 in a non-conference game on Saturday, Sept. 19. The Warriors passed for 281 yards and two touchdowns, including a 65-yard completion.
 
The Warriors are 1-2 overall. Dickinson is 2-1 overall.
 
Junior Joe Lyons (Margate City, N.J./Atlantic City) completed 15 of 26 passes for 212 yards and one touchdown. Senior Jared Zimmerman (Souderton, Pa./Souderton Area) caught six passes for 99 yards and added a 13-yard punt return. Zimmerman surpassed 500 career receiving yards, reaching a total of 574. First-year Wesley Horsman (Woodbine, Md./Glenelg) finished with three receptions for 61 yards and a touchdown, marking his first receiving touchdown of the season. Senior Khalil Johnson (Laurel, Md./Atholton) recorded eight tackles and an interception.
 
The Warriors recovered from an early Dickinson touchdown, answering with a four-play, 51-yard drive capped by Lyons' 36-yard touchdown pass to Horsman and sophomore Vasco Granitto's (Dover, Del./Polytech) extra point for a 7-6 lead. JayVon Story and Mason Woodward helped create that chance by stopping Dickinson on fourth-and-2 at the Warriors 49. The Warriors finished the first quarter ahead 7-6 and driving at the Dickinson 27 after Lyons hit Zimmerman for 39 yards on the final play.
 
The Warriors struck first in the second quarter on senior Spencer Ferguson's (Downingtown, Pa./Coatesville Area) 16-yard touchdown run, his first rushing touchdown of the season, and Granitto's extra point made it 14-6. Dickinson answered with three touchdowns, leading 26-14 at the break.
 
In the third quarter, Zimmerman had a punt-return touchdown nullified by an illegal block, and the Warriors' ensuing possession stalled at the Dickinson 44.
 
The Warriors' fourth-quarter scoring came in the final minute, when first-year Jason Lajara (Brick, N.J./Brick Memorial) hit first-year David Grayton (Hagerstown, Md./Williamsport) for 65 yards to the Dickinson 4-yard line and later found sophomore Elijah Jordan (Jersey Shore, Pa./Jersey Shore Area) for a touchdown to make it 40-21. Earlier, Johsnon intercepted a pass in the end zone for a touchback. Dickinson scored two rushing touchdowns in the quarter.
 
Dane Sorensen rushed for 151 yards and two touchdowns on 21 carries and added six catches for 62 yards and two more scores. Ben Klassen completed 21 of 31 passes for 250 yards and two touchdowns and also rushed for 59 yards. Jake Williams added 64 rushing yards and two touchdowns on 12 carries. Sean Couvertiere recorded three tackles and an interception with an 18-yard return.
 
Senior Mason Woodward (Granville Summit, Pa./Troy) has recorded a sack in two consecutive games.
 
Up next, the Warriors travel to Glassboro, N.J., to face Rowan on Saturday, Sept. 26, at 1 p.m.
