Block posts half-dozen goals for Lycoming at Virginia Wesleyan

VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. – Senior Riley Block (Hopatcong, N.J./Morris Catholic) posted six goals to lead the Lycoming College women's lacrosse team, which fell to Virginia Wesleyan University, 16-7, in non-conference action at Birdsong Field on Monday afternoon, March 9.
 
First-year Molly Giufre (Montgomery, N.Y./Valley Central) added a goal and an assist for the Warriors (2-4 overall) and first-year Julie Dammes (Hicksville, N.Y./Hicksville) added five ground balls and five caused turnovers. Block also added six draw controls, two ground balls and a caused turnover. Sophomore Summer Emlet (New Cumberland, Pa./Red Land) also picked up three ground balls and sophomore Angela Farnham (La Plata, Md./McDonough) added two ground balls and three caused turnovers.
 
Block started the game with three straight goals in the opening 10 minutes, but Virginia Wesleyan (4-2) responded with 13 straight goals before Block ended the run with 6:06 left in the third quarter.
 
Her final goal in the fourth quarter moved her past Megan Wallenhorst '08 into third in program history with 234 career goals.
 
Creelyn Bastinelli led the Marlins with four goals and two assists and Kenna Duplechin also had four goals and three caused turnovers. Reese Morgenthaler added nine draw controls and Joy Ramsey had five ground balls and three caused turnovers.
 
Sophomore Emma Yanders (Kempton, Pa./Northwestern Lehigh) posted six saves in 37 minutes and first-year Riley Pool (Canal Winchester, Ohio/Pickerington) added three stops for the Warriors. Melissa Dolt stopped four shots for the Marlins.
 
The Warriors get back on the field on Saturday, March 14, when they host Hilbert College at 1 p.m., at UPMC Field.
