Warriors fall to defending conference champions

WILLIAMSPORT, Pa. – Senior Riley Block (Hopatcong, N.J./Morris Catholic) scored four goals and first-year Molly Giufre (Montgomery, N.Y./Valley Central) scored twice for the Lycoming College women's lacrosse team, as it fell to the defending Landmark Conference champions, 15th-ranked University of Scranton, 24-6, at UPMC Field on Wednesday night, March 25.
 
Block, who entered the week leading Division III in goals, scored four more to give her 58 goals through nine games this season for the Warriors (3-6 overall, 0-2 Landmark). Giufre scored on two free-positions shots.
 
First-year Julie Dammes (Hicksville, N.Y./Hicksville) had four ground balls and two caused turnovers and Block finished with seven draw controls.
 
The Warriors scored first off a hard, low shot from Block before Scranton (6-3 overall, 2-0 Landmark) scored the next seven goals. Lycoming scored two more, with Giufre and Block each scoring as the second quarter got underway, but the Royals scored eight more goals to put the game out of reach.
 
Jillian Lopez led the Royals with five goals, Grace Didominica added four goals and two assists and Eileen Hewitt posted 11 draw controls.
 
Sophomore Emma Yanders (Kempton, Pa./Northwestern Lehigh) posted 12 saves in the first three quarters and first-year Riley Pool (Pickerington, Ohio/Canal Winchester) added two in the fourth quarter for Lycoming. Maggie Appelle and Eva Guerino had three saves for the Royals.
 
The Warriors host Susquehanna University in Landmark Conference action at 1 p.m., on Saturday, March 25, at UPMC Field.
