WILKES-BARRE, Pa. – Senior
Avery Eiswerth (Williamsport, Pa./Williamsport Area) tossed a two-hit, 10-inning 2-0 shutout for the Lycoming College softball team in the first game of Wednesday afternoon, April 9's doubleheader with Wilkes University at the Ralston Athletic Complex. Wilkes won the second game, 4-0.
Eiswerth (4-4) tossed to just five batters over the minimum in the win, as she walked three and struck out eight during the 137-pitch effort.
The Warriors (9-9 overall, 2-6 Landmark) wrapped 10 hits in the game, but didn't break through until the international tiebreaker was enforced in the 10
th inning. With junior
Kristen George (Montoursville, Pa./Montoursville Area) at second base, first-year
Jocelyn McCracken (Jersey Shore, Pa./Jersey Shore Area) singled up the middle, setting up a sac fly from junior
Claire Alexander (South Williamsport, Pa./South Williamsport Area). McCracken moved to third on a wild pitch and scored on an opposite field single from junior
Alex Eckerson (Hopatcong, N.J./Morris Catholic).
After Eiswerth left the bases loaded by getting a groundout in the Wilkes (11-8 overall, 6-2 Landmark) first, she retired the next eight batters and didn't let a runner to second until the sixth. No Wilkes runner reached third in the game.
McCracken led the Warrior offense, going 3-for-4 with a run and both senior
Rachel Daub (Honesdale, Pa./Honesdale Area) and junior
Hailee Sobieski (Wharton, N.J./Morris Catholic) each had two hits.
In the second game, the defending Landmark Conference Pitcher of the Year, Lauren DeMarco, tossed a four-hitter to lift Wilkes to a 4-0 win. Sophomore
Kendall McAnelly (Williamsport, Pa./Williamsport Area) also threw a four-hitter, but three walks and two errors helped the Colonels score their runs.
