WILLIAMSPORT, Pa. – Senior Avery Eiswerth (Williamsport, Pa./Williamsport Area) had four hits, three runs and a RBI at the plate and struck out a career-high tying 14 in the circle to lead the Lycoming College softball team, which fell to Penn College, 2-1 in eight innings and 6-5, in non-conference action at Elm Park on Thursday afternoon, March 27.
 
In the first game, Eiswerth (3-2) tossed a complete-game six-hitter, tying her career-high with 14 strikeouts, but Penn College (14-7 overall) took advantage of the international tiebreaker to post a 2-1 win in eight innings.
 
The Warriors (9-4 overall) scored their lone run in the fifth, as Eiswerth led off with a single, moved to second on a passed ball, third on a groundout and scored on a fielder's choice.
 
That matched Penn College's first-inning run after which Eiswerth allowed just four baserunners in the last six innings of regulation while mowing down 12 batters, including the side in the fourth and seventh innings.
 
After Lycoming left a runner stranded at third in the top of the eighth, Penn College scored its runner on second with a two-out single from Mackenzie Weaver.

Weaver (9-3) threw a two-hitter for the Wildcats, allowing an unearned run and striking out five. Weaver was also 2-for-4 with a RBI hitting.
 
Eiswerth was 3-for-4 with two runs and a RBI in the second game to pace the Warriors, who wrapped eight hits in the 6-5 setback. Junior Hailee Sobieski (Wharton, N.J./Morris Catholic) was 2-for-3 with a run, a double and a walk.
 
The Warriors broke a scoreless tie in the fourth when Sobieski and Eiswerth singled to lead off before junior Mallory Rodarmel (Montoursville, Pa./Loyalsock Township) walked to load the bases and first-year Ashley Forrest (Red Hill, Pa./Upper Perkiomen) followed with an RBI walk before a two-out wild pitch scored Eiswerth. The lead expanded to 3-0 in the top of the fifth when junior Claire Alexander (South Williamsport, Pa./South Williamsport Area) walked to lead off, moved to second on a sac bunt and scored on a two-out single from Eiswerth.
 
The Wildcats took the lead with a six-run fifth, using three hits and three errors to score the runs. After the Warriors loaded the bases but didn't score in the sixth, Eiswerth got the team moving in the seventh with a single before Rodarmel reached on an error, setting up a one-out two-RBI double from Forrest.
 
Mackenzi Tice (5-2) was 2-for-3 with a run, a triple and three RBI to lead the Wildcats. She pitched seven innings, allowing eight hits, four earned runs and six walks. She struck out eight.
 
Sophomore Kendall McAnelly (Williamsport, Pa./Williamsport Area) (3-1) pitched 4 2/3 innings, allowing six hits, two walks and no earned runs. She struck out one.
 
The Warriors get back on the field on Saturday, March 29, when they head to Drew University for a 1 p.m. Landmark Conference doubleheader.
