WASHINGTON, D.C.—The sixth-seeded Lycoming College men's soccer team saw their season come to a close on Wednesday, Nov. 5, as they were defeated 3-0 by second-seeded Catholic University of America in the Landmark Conference Championship semifinals at Carlini Field.
Catholic (12-0-6) stayed unbeaten for the season and moved on to face No. 5 seed Drew in the Landmark Conference Championship finals on Saturday. Lycoming saw their season come to a close at 7-7-5.
The Cardinals fired off 11 shots in the first half, with their first goal coming in the 30th minute when Carson Shamoo scored unassisted. Just under three minutes later, Azarias Tewodros found Donik Elshani for the second Catholic score, giving the Cardinals a 2-0 lead at the break. In the second half, the Cardinals extended the lead in the 56th minute, when Francesco Mattuci scored an unassisted goal to give Catholic a three-goal advantage, which they would hold the rest of the way.
Owen Allegro made four saves for Catholic in the win, while Lycoming's Jace Bennett (Falling waters, W.Va. / Spring Mills) stopped five shots.
