WILLIAMSPORT, Pa. – Senior
Karson Kline (Clearfield, Pa./Clearfield Area) caught a pair of touchdowns, but a Washington & Lee University ground game that rolled up 344 yards was able to keep the Lycoming College football team at the doorstep in a 14-12 decision in the Cape Charles Bowl on Saturday afternoon, Nov. 22, at David Person Field at Girardi Stadium.

The Warriors (5-6 overall), after two second-half drives stalled with interceptions in the red zone, marched 69 yards on 11 plays midway through the fourth quarter, getting two third-down conversions from senior
Michael VanHorn (Philadelphia, Pa./Father Judge), one by pass and one with his feet, before sophomore
Joe Lyons III (Margate City, N.J./Atlantic City) found Kline at the back of the end zone for a 15-yard score with 3:20 left.

Needing a two-point conversion to tie the game, the attempt was intercepted. The Warriors stopped the ensuing Generals' drive and got the ball back at their own 15 with a minute left. Lyons found senior
Brendan Clark (Montoursville, Pa./Loyalsock Township) for a 23-yard pass, but couldn't complete another as the drive ended and the Generals (7-4 overall) were able to kneel for the victory.

Lyons finished 18-of-34 for 238 yards and two touchdowns. He was intercepted and sacked twice. Kline finished with six catches for 79 yards and two scores and junior
Jared Zimmerman (Souderton, Pa./Souderton Area) caught five passes for 80 yards.

Ryan Pentz (Mill Hall, Pa./Central Mountain) posted 14 tackles and a fumble recovery and junior
Louie Shank (Carlisle, Pa./Carlisle) posted nine tackles and a forced fumble. Sophomore
Khalil Johnson (Laurel, Md./Atholton) and senior
Mike Sipps (Lawrenceville, Pa./Cowanesque Valley) each had nine stops.

While Lycoming found success through the air, Washington & Lee used the triple option to rack up 344 yards on 65 rushes while throwing for just 24 yards in the game.

The Generals found the end zone in two of its first three drives, with Ryan Clemens scoring each time, as he finished with 33 rushes for 188 yards and two scores.

Down 14-0, the Warrior offense got started on its third drive after Pentz picked up a fumble recovery at their own 49 that Shank popped out. A pair of passes to Zimmerman got the ball to the five-yard line and on third-and-goal, Lyons found Kline in the corner of the end zone on a quick out to make it 14-6 as halftime approached.

Brennan Stout had 13 tackles for the Generals and Will Mahmud had six. The game's MVP, Jack Johnson, had four tackles and an interception in the end zone.
