Wood’s goals help Warriors down Wilkes, 4-2

WILKES-BARRE, Pa. – Two second-half goals from senior Hannah Wood (Nottingham, Pa./Solanco) helped lift the Lycoming College women's soccer team notched a 4-2 win over Wilkes University to cap the Landmark Conference regular season on Tuesday night, Oct. 28, by capturing the No. 2 seed in the upcoming Landmark Conference Championship.

Wood entered the game with one career goal, scored in her third career game against Elmira in 2022.

The Warriors (17-1-1 overall, 7-1-1 Landmark) earned a first-round bye in the championship for the second straight year thanks to the win over Wilkes and will face the winner of No. 3-seeded Catholic and No. 6-seeded Drew on Saturday, Nov. 1.

Wilkes (6-7-5 overall, 2-4-3 Landmark) got on the board first in the 41st minute, but junior Kaitlyn Born (Hamilton, N.J./South Brunswick) found classmate Julia Bidelspach (Myerstown, Pa./ELCO) for a quick one-timer inside the box to tie the game just before halftime.

Wood got the scoring started in the second half, scoring off a corner after a quick touch from senior Aubrey Williamson (Lititz, Pa./Warwick). A handball in the box helped Wilkes tie the game in the 66th minute, but just over two minutes later, Wood scored her second goal, bodying in a corner kick from junior Norah Mosley (Robbinsville, N.J./Allentown). Sophomore Ella Magee (Selinsgrove, Pa./Selinsgrove Area) capped the scoring in the 82nd minute with a shot to the lower right corner for her 16th goal of the year and her 45th point of the season.

Senior Riley Block (Hopatcong, N.J./Morris Catholic) earned the win, making six saves for the Warriors, as she moved within one win of the school's goalkeeper record held by Jessica Bennett (2004-07). Block is 31-5-7 in her career.

Delaney Yaracs had four saves for the Colonels.
