Warriors retain Boot, best Susquehanna, 2-0

WILLIAMSPORT, Pa.—The Lycoming College men's soccer team scored one goal in each half and extended the Boot's stay in Williamsport as they defeated Susquehanna University, 2-0, in Landmark Conference play on Saturday, Oct. 25 at UPMC Field.

Lycoming (5-6-5, 2-3-3) is 9-0-2 against Susquehanna (5-9-3, 1-4-3) since 2014, retaining the rivalry game trophy between the two sides with the Warriors' sixth shutout of the season.

The Warriors had a pair of promising attacks early on that were turned back by the River Hawks, but broke through in the 34th minute, when Lycoming was awarded a penalty kick and senior Christian Woobay (Gaithersburg, Md. / Quince Orchard) punched it into the net for his sixth goal of the year, starting his Senior Day off with the score that gave Lycoming a 1-0 lead at the halftime intermission.

Ten minutes after halftime, the Warriors doubled the score. Sophomore Xavier Dandridge (Baltimore, Md. / Archbishop Quigley) found junior Aidan Stillman (Silver Spring, Md. / Albert Einstein) on the right side, who curled a shot past the outstretched keeper into the left side of the net for his first goal of the year, giving Lycoming a 2-0 advantage.

The Warriors defense stayed airtight, allowing just five total shots and only one shot on goal, which sophomore keeper Jace Bennett stopped as he secured his 14th career shutout in the victory.

Lycoming will finish the regular season on Tuesday, Oct. 28 against Wilkes with a potential berth in the six-team Landmark Conference Championship on the line. The match will get underway from UPMC Field at 7 p.m.
