Warriors roll past Houghton in opener

WILLIAMSPORT, Pa. – Senior Rei Saar (Montoursville, Pa./Montoursville), junior Emma Kelchner (Nescopeck, Pa./Central Columbia), senior Sarah Lanphear (Chittenango, N.Y./Chittenango) and first-year Sadie Stahl (Duboistown, Pa./South Williamsport) provided singles and doubles wins to lift the Lycoming College women's tennis to a 5-2 non-conference win against Houghton on Friday afternoon, Aug. 30, in their first season-opener at the Brandon Park Tennis Courts.

Saar and Kelchner won 6-3 against Houghton's Arija Grant and Myakay Bartman at No. 1 doubles, before Saar, playing at No. 1 singles, beat Arija Grant, 6-2, 6-4 and Kelchner, at No. 2 singles, downed Houghton's Clancey Cockle, 6-2, 6-2.

Lanphear and Stahl defeated Houghton's Clancy Cockle and Kelsi Clapper in No. 2 doubles, 6-2, before Lanphear beat MyaKay Bartman, 6-2, 6-0 at No. 3 singles and Stahl clinched the match with a 6-3, 6-3 win over her Zoe Zachery.

The Warriors are 1-0 this year and Houghton fell to 0-1.

The Warriors head to Wilkes-Barre, Pa., on Saturday, Sept. 7, for the King's College Invitational at 9 a.m.
