Warriors’ run ends in Landmark Championship final

BETHLEHEM, Pa. – After eliminating three teams in the tournament, the fifth-seeded Lycoming College softball team fell to top-seeded Moravian University, 5-1, in the Landmark Conference Championship final on Sunday afternoon, May 12, at Blue-Grey Field.

The Warriors (18-16 overall) started the championship by beating No. 4 Susquehanna, 3-0, on May 7, before falling to Moravian (30-8 overall), 3-2, in the double-elimination portion's opening game on May 11. The team rebounded to defeat No. 3 Juniata, 8-0 in five innings on May 11, and No. 2 Catholic, 10-0 in five innings on May 12 to reach the championship round for the second straight year after reaching the MAC Freedom Championship final in 2023.

Moravian got on the board in the fourth inning with a pair of RBI doubles to lead 2-0. The Warriors rallied in the sixth, though, as sophomore Claire Alexander (South Williamsport, Pa./South Williamsport Area) singled up the middle. After she stole second and a flyout, junior Rachel Daub (Honesdale, Pa./Honesdale Area) delivered an RBI double to the fence in right center. A groundout moved Daub to third, but a flyout ended the threat.

In Moravian's half of the sixth, tournament MVP Ajala Elmore delivered a three-run homer to put the game out of reach.

Elmore was 2-for-4 with two runs and four RBI to lead the Greyhounds.

Madi Cunningham (17-2) threw a six-hitter in the win, striking out five. Senior Kylie Russell (Cogan Station, Pa./Jersey Shore Area) (9-6) threw 3 1/3 innings, allowing five hits and two runs. She struck out three.

Russell finished her career with a 26-19 record (finishing eighth in school history) and a 1.98 career ERA (third in school history) in 318.0 innings (seventh in school history), as she struck out 274 batters (fourth in school history).

Senior Kylie Segraves (Williamsport, Pa./Williamsport Area) finished her career with a .309 batting average, 112 hits (10th in school history), 68 runs (ninth in school history), 20 doubles (seventh in school history), three homers and 48 RBI.
