Warriors fall in pair of one-run games

ANNVILLE, Pa. - Sophomore Claire Alexander (South Williamsport, Pa./South Williamsport Area) had three hits and two triples to lead the Lycoming College softball team, which fell to Lebanon Valley College, 2-1 and 1-0, in a pair of non-conference games at the LVC Softball Park on Sunday, April 21.

Alexander drove in junior pinch-runner Jackie Snyder (Williamsport, Pa./Williamsport Area) with a fifth-inning, two-out game-tying triple in the first game after Lebanon Valley (26-6 overall) scored a first-inning run. Snyder came on after sophomore Hailee Sobieski (Wharton, N.J./Morris Catholic) was hit by a pitch to lead off the inning.

Those were the only runners to reach third in the game, as Jordan Walter (13-4) completed a four-hitter, walking two and striking out one. The Flying Dutchmen won the game when Julia Craig singled in Sam Burns in the bottom of the seventh.

Junior Avery Eiswerth (5-6) allowed 12 hits in six-plus innings, walking one and striking out four.

In the second game, Erin Sinatra (13-2) threw a six-hit shutout, walking one and striking out eight, spoiling a five-hitter from senior Kylie Russell (Cogan Station, Pa./Jersey Shore Area) (8-3), as she allowed one run and struck out one.

The Dutchmen scored their only run in the second, when Nicole Kratz doubled into the gap to drive in a run.

Alexander hit another triple in the third inning and was the only Warrior to reach third in the game. Two other Warriors (13-10 overall) reached second.

The Warriors are back in action on Wednesday, April 24, when they face Juniata College in a key Landmark Conference doubleheader at 3 p.m.
