Warriors secure No. 2 seed in Landmark Conference Championship

WILLIAMSPORT, Pa. - Senior Sydney Sellers (Huntingdon, Pa. / Huntingdon Area) secured the game-winning goal for the Lycoming College women's soccer team four minutes into the first half and it held on from there in a 1-0 Senior Day win in Landmark Conference action against Elizabethtown College on Saturday, Nov. 2, at UPMC Field.

With a 14-2-3 overall and 6-1-2 Landmark Conference record at the conclusion of the regular season, the Warriors will compete in the six-team Landmark Conference Championship playoffs on Thursday, Nov. 7 as the No. 2-seed, earning the right to host a postseason game for the first time in program history, earning a bye into Thursday's semifinal.

The Warriors, who tied the 2022 team's record with 10 shutouts with the blanking, are entering the postseason for the second time, joining the 2022 team.

With 41 minutes remaining in the first half, sophomore Kaitlyn Born (Hamilton, N.J. / South Brunswick) ran down the sideline and then fired a cross into the box near the goalline inside the six for Sellers, who launched it into the left side of the net for the Warriors' first goal.

In net for the Warriors, senior Abbey Gerasimoff (Bloomsburg, Pa. / Bloomsburg) started the game, along with other seniors in recognition of Senior Day, before junior Riley Block (Hopatcong, N.J. / Morris Catholic) stepped on the field to finish the game. Block saved seven shot attempts launched by the Blue Jays. Elizabethtown's Adrienne McGallicher notched two saves in return.

Junior Aubrey Williamson (Lititz, Pa. / Warwick) and sophomore Mikayla Long (Lewisburg, Pa. / Lewisburg Area) led Lycoming's efforts, posting two shots each, out of the six shots taken by the Warriors against the Blue Jays.

Elizabethtown posted 11 shots in return, led by Ava Whisten who secured three shots. Lycoming also notched five corners to Elizabethtown's one.
