Warriors fall at Brockport

BROCKPORT, N.Y. – The Lycoming College football team fell to SUNY Brockport, 59-3, in the team's final non-conference game of 2023, on Saturday, Sept. 23, at Bob Boozer Field.
 
Sophomore Dawson Debebe (Schwenksville, Pa./Perkiomen Valley) had two catches for 22 yards and senior Brandon Timothy (Woodland Park, N.J./Passaic Valley) had five catches for 17 yards for the Warriors (0-4 overall). First-year Jay Huber (Lebanon, Pa./Cedar Crest) finished 6-of-18 for 40 yards.
 
Sophomore Ryan Pentz (Lock Haven, Pa./Central Mountain) and senior Kevin Gianoni (Quakertown, Pa./Lansdale Catholic) each had seven tackles, one for a loss. Sophomore Michael Sipps (Lawrenceville, Pa./Cowanesque Valley) had a sack.
 
Sophomore Matt Trolinger (Carlisle, Pa./Carlisle) intercepted a pass at 43-yard line late in the second quarter, returning it to the Brockport 32. Aided by first-down receptions to Debebe and Timothy, the Warriors moved the ball to the 14-yard line, setting up the 22nd career field goal from senior Ian Plankenhorn (Montoursville, Pa./Montoursville Area), a 31-yarder, as time expired on the first half with Brockport leading, 21-3.
 
The Golden Eagles (3-1 overall) scored five touchdowns in the third quarter to put the game out of reach.
 
Ben Gocella was 16-of-24 for 184 yards and a score for the Golden Eagles. Gino Fontanarosa rushed 19 times for 109 yards and three scores and Cameron Mesh had seven rushes for 95 yards and a score.
 
Andrea Costanzi had five tackles, a sack and an interception and Mike Talbert had five tackles, 2.5 for loss and 1.5 sacks.
 
The Warriors will begin their time in the Landmark Conference by facing the most familiar opponent in the program's history, as Wilkes University will come to David Person Field at Girardi Stadium on Saturday, Oct. 7 for a 12 p.m. Homecoming start.
