Bisel, Upcraft, Warriors down Hilbert in five

HAMBURG, N.Y. – Junior Brynne Bisel (Julian, Pa./Bald Eagle Area) notched 16 kills and sophomore Cameron Upcraft (Spring Mills, Pa./Penns Valley) notched a career-high 15 and hit .522 to lead the Lycoming College volleyball team to a 3-2 (25-12, 24-26, 19-25, 25-21, 15-9) win at Hilbert College in non-conference action at Brad Hafner Recreation Center on Tuesday night, Sept. 12.
 
Bisel notched 16 kills and 12 digs for her second straight double-double to lead the Warrior attack, which hit .215 (61-26-163) in the match. Upcraft added 15 kills to go with three blocks, junior Arianna Santos (Oxford, Pa./Oxford Area) added nine kills and hit .412 and junior Jessica Ahart (Boyertown, Pa./Boyertown Area) added eight kills and five digs.
 
First-year Lindsay Heimlich (Bergen, N.Y./Mercy) posted 36 assists and eight digs and first-year Haley Balgavy () added 13 assists and an ace. Junior Kendall Myers (Mechanicsburg, Pa./Trinity) had 10 digs and four aces and junior Ali Koval (Mansfield, Pa./North Penn-Mansfield) notched 25 digs, crossing 700 in her career in the process, as she also added five assists.
 
The Warriors held the Hawks to a negative hitting percentage in the first set while cruising to the 25-12 win, but the Hawks came back to win the next two sets by closer margins. The Warriors were behind 17-15 in the fourth set, but a kill by Santos set up a run of six straight points off the serve of Myers, with Bisel spearheading the run with three kills. The Hawks cut that lead down to a points, but kills from Bisel and Coombs helped the Warriors send the match to the fifth set.
 
The Hawks tied the fifth set at seven, but a kill by Ahart set up a run of four more points from the serve of Myers, as Bisel had two more kills in that run to put the Warriors up by five points, before pushing the lead to six by the end of the set at 15-9.
 
Maria Spinelli led the Hawks (3-4 overall) with 12 kills and three blocks and Michaela Rice added 10 kills and 12 digs. Jessee Jonathan had 35 assists and nine digs and Natalie Ruhlmann finished with 19 digs.
 
The Warriors get back on the court on Tuesday, Sept. 19, when they host Penn State-Altoona at 7 p.m. in Lamade Gym.
