Warriors sweep tri-match

WILLIAMSPORT, Pa. – With a pair of solid hitting performances, the Lycoming College volleyball team swept a tri-match at Lamade Gym on Saturday, Sept. 17, to reach five straight wins, downing Penn State Berks, 3-1 (25-14, 25-21, 18-25, 25-19), before dropping Wilson, 3-0 (25-13, 25-10, 25-11).
 
The Warriors (9-1 overall) posted a solid hitting performance with 41 hits and a .190 percentage to get past Penn State Berks (3-3 overall) in the opener.
 
First-year Cameron Upcraft (Spring Mills, Pa./Penns Valley) posted nine kills to go with six aces and five blocks to lead the Warriors and sophomore Jessica Ahart (Boyertown, Pa./Boyertown Area) added seven kills and three blocks.
 
Sophomore Brynne Bisel (Julian, Pa./Bald Eagle Area) posted 18 digs, five kills and two aces and senior Elizabeth Kelson (Denville, N.J./Morris Catholic) posted five kills and four blocks. Sophomore Marykatelin Button (Avon, N.Y./Avon) had 16 assists and sophomore Ellie Norton (Morgantown, Pa./Twin Valley) added 20.
 
Cassie Shoupe led the Nittany Lions (3-3 overall) with 10 kills , Julia Rathsam had 31 assists, Riley Kovach posted seven aces and Kovach and Shoupe each had 10 digs.
 
The Warriors hit .254 to go with 19 aces to down Wilson in the second match.
 
Upcraft had 10 kills on 12 swings, adding four aces and two blocks and Kelson added seven kills. Bisel notched six aces, four kills and four digs and Button posted 14 assists and four aces. Sophomore Catherine Milkovich (Bethesda, Md./Walter Johnson) notched 11 assists and an ace. First-year Kai Vista (Hightstown, N.J./Hightstown) led the team with eight digs.
 
Niki Schussler posted four kills to lead the Phoenix (0-9 overall), Jenna Dixon had five assists, Deah Menedis added three aces and Alexis Buckley posted six digs.
 
The Warriors get back on the court on Wednesday, Sept. 21, when they host Arcadia University in a 7 p.m. MAC Freedom match at Lamade Gym.
