Warriors take home opener against Lions, 3-1

WILLIAMSPORT, Pa. – Opening a brand-new season with a pair of goals for the Lycoming College women's soccer team, senior Bella Green (South Williamsport, Pa./South Williamsport Area) led the Warriors to a 3-1 victory over Penn State Altoona on Thursday evening, Sept. 1, at UPMC Field.

The two scores moved Green into the top 10 in program history in career points with 42, as she surpassed Meghenn Jackson (2015-16) and Jayden Leighow (2017-20), who each had 40 and stood in a tie for ninth. Her 16 goals are now tied with Jackson's 16 for ninth in program history.

Green opened the scoring for the Warriors with a goal at 12:13 in the first half. The goal, set up by senior Bridgett Maaloum (Lynbrook, N.Y./Sacred Heart Academy), as the ball was dribbled up through the defense by Maaloum before the cross pass to Green, who stood waiting at the left goal post to send it to the back of the net.

Sophomore Sydney Sellers (Huntingdon, Pa./Huntingdon Area) put the Warriors up 2-0 at 30:05 after a fantastic play setup by first-year Kate Finkbeiner (Warrenton, Va./Fauquier) for sophomore Kylie Brodkorb (Mechanicsburg, Pa./Cumberland Valley), who shot the through pass to senior Rorie Bass Foresman (Danville, Pa,/Danville Area) in the left corner, as Sellers snuck it past Altoona goalie Adeline Baustert.

Green's final goal came early in the second half on a penalty kick.

The Lions' goal by Jordan Yaletsko at 35:05 in the first cut the Warriors lead in half and was assisted by Kelsey Johnson.

Sophomore goalkeeper Abbey Gerasimoff (Bloomsburg, Pa./Bloomsburg) made two saves in the opening win. Baustert made 12 for the Lions.

The Warriors return to the field on Labor Day, Sept. 5, when they travel to Mount Aloysius College for a 4 p.m. kickoff in Cresson, Pa.
