Warriors move to .500 with win over DeSales

WILLIAMSPORT, Pa. – Junior Tess Arnold (Elmira, N.Y./Elmira) scored a career-high five goals, including three in the fourth quarter, to lead the Lycoming College women's lacrosse team, which posted a critical 14-9 win over DeSales University in MAC Freedom action at UPMC Field on Wednesday evening, April 20.
 
Arnold, who also added an assist, three ground balls, three draw controls and two caused turnovers, was one of five Warriors (7-7 overall, 3-3 MAC Freedom) to finish with two scores, as the balanced scoring attack helped Lycoming move into the fifth and final spot in the MAC Freedom Championship with two conference games remaining.
 
Senior Emma Lehr (Danville, Pa./Danville Area), first-year Kailey Stocker (Ringwood, N.J./Lakeland Regional), first-year Katie Maguire (Garnerville, N.Y./Albertus Magnus) and senior Erika Boyer (East Greenville, Pa./Upper Perkiomen) each had two goals. Lehr added two ground balls and four draw controls, Maguire grabbed eight draws and two ground balls and Boyer notched three assists to reach 90 career points. First-year Erin Henn (Ronkonkoma, N.Y./Sayville) added a goal and an assist.
 
Sophomore Zoe Stauffer (Lititz, Pa./Warwick) was also outstanding in goal, making 17 stops off 30 DeSales (6-8 overall, 2-3 MAC Freedom) shots. Sophomore Alyssa Zorbaugh (York, Pa./West York) caused two turnovers and junior Madison Wineburg (Phoenixville, Pa./Phoenixville Area) grabbed three ground balls to pace the defense.
 
Lehr scored the first two goals of the game for the Warriors off assists from Boyer, the second of which put the Warriors in control for good. DeSales closed within a goal three times more, the last of which came 23 seconds into the second quarter, but the Warriors opened up the game with a run of five straight goals, with Stocker scoring twice to lead the run, to make it 9-4 with 11:23 left in the third quarter. The Bulldogs closed within four with six minutes left at 13-9 after the Warriors led by as many as seven at 13-6, but the Warrior defense shut them down the rest of the way and Arnold closed out the win with a goal with 11 seconds left.
 
Marina Bradley posted four goals and an assist to lead the Bulldogs and Hayley Petrosini added two goals and an assist. Meagan Landers caused three turnovers and Kelsey Pogonyi had five ground balls. Michaela Regan notched 14 saves.
 
The Warriors get back on the field with another key MAC Freedom game as they head to Delaware Valley for a 1 p.m. tilt on Wednesday, April 20.
