WILLIAMSPORT, Pa. – Sending the tying run to the plate in each of the last four innings, the Lycoming College softball team came up just short in the second game of a MAC Freedom doubleheader with Misericordia University, falling 7-5, at the Shangraw Athletic Complex on Tuesday, April 12. The Warriors fell in the first game, 6-0.
Lycoming (5-17 overall, 0-8 MAC Freedom) fell victim to a seven-run second inning from Misericordia (15-6 overall, 5-1 MAC Freedom) in the second game, but fought back to make it close in the final innings.
After Misericordia scored seven, the Warriors responded with three in the bottom of the inning to draw within two at 7-5. Sophomore
Rachel DeWolfe (New Cumberland, Pa./Cedar Cliff) led off with a walk before first-year
Avery Eiswerth (Williamsport, Pa./Williamsport Area) singled up the middle and junior
Kaleigh Kinley (Bellefonte, Pa./Bald Eagle Area) was hit by a pitch to load the bases. A groundout scored DeWolfe, an error scored Eiswerth and Kinley scored on an attempted double steal.
The Warriors continued to threaten, getting a runner in each of the last four innings, including loading the bases in the sixth but couldn't push a run across.
The Warriors opened the game with two runs in the first inning, as sophomore
Kylie Segraves (Williamsport, Pa./Williamsport Area) and first-year
Rachel Daub (Honesdale, Pa./Honesdale Area) each had singles with one out before junior
Morgan Wetzel (Mill Hall, Pa./Central Mountain) singled into left with two outs to score both runners.
Wetzel finished 2-for-4 with two RBI to lead the Warriors. Alexa McHugh led the Cougars, going 2-for-3 with a run and two RBI. Nicole Elliott, Brianna Holder and Antonia Pacillo also had two hits for Misericordia.
Miranda Bohn (4-3) earned the win for the Cougars, tossing five innings of scoreless relief, allowing two hits and three walks. She struck out three. Senior
Angie King (Maplewood, Pa./Cooperstown) (0-4) took the loss before yielding to junior
Payton Whary (Shamokin, Pa./Shamokin Area), who allowed three hits and two runs in four innings of relief.
In the first game, McHugh and Emily Wenner combined on a five-hitter for a 6-0 win, as the Cougars broke a scoreless tie in the fourth with three runs before scoring two in the fifth and one in the seventh.

Morgan Klosko (Kingston, Pa./Wyoming Valley West), first-year
Molly Shappell (Christiana, Pa./Octorara Area) and Kinley.
McHugh (6-1) earned the win, going five innings and allowing four hits. Sophomore
Kylie Russell (Jersey Shore, Pa./Jersey Shore Area) (0-4) allowed three earned runs and seven hits in five innings for the Warriors.
The Warriors get back on the field on Friday, April 15, when they head to FDU-Florham for a 3 p.m. MAC Freedom doubleheader.
