Warriors tie program wins record at Juniata

HUNTINGDON, Pa. -  Less than a minute after a Juniata College shot hit the crossbar, sophomore Madison Maihle (Jersey Shore, Pa./Jersey Shore Area) sent a cross from the left side into the box where senior Kylie Magaro (Enola, Pa./East Pennsboro) connected with it to get it bounce into the goal to help lift the Lycoming College women's soccer team to its record setting 12th win of the year, downing Juniata, 2-1, on Wednesday, Oct. 26, at Gibbel Stadium.

The all-time single-season wins record was set by the 2004 team that went 12-4-1. This year's Warriors advanced to 12-4-2 with one game remaining in the regular season, as the squad has earned its first regional rankings from the United Soccer Coaches and NCAA this week, as the team is also set to make its first postseason appearance in the program's 29-year history next week.

First-year Natalie Bates (Newark, N.Y./Newark) struck first with a goal that opened the scoring in the 37th minute for her first career goal. Bates, positioned in the left corner of the goal box, was there to clean it up after senior Bella Green (South Williamsport, Pa./South Williamsport Area) fired near the box before first-year Rhandie Jessell (Williamsport, Pa./Loyalsock Township) delivered a pass to Bates in the corner.

After the Eagles tied the game in the 63rd minute, Maihle delivered pass just inside the Eagles defensive zone to Magaro at the top of the goal box for the game-winning goal in the 83rd minute.

First-year goalkeeper Riley Block (Hopatcong, N.J./Morris Catholic) earned the win, making no saves. Cati Besch and Avery Zales combined for eight saves for the Eagles. Alyssa Bui had the Juniata goal.

The Warriors wrap up the regular season on Saturday, Oct. 29, in a MAC Freedom matchup against FDU-Florham at 5 p.m. in Madison, N.J.
