WILKES-BARRE, Pa. – The Lycoming College women's soccer team, led by sophomore goalkeeper
Abbey Gerasimoff (Bloomsburg, Pa./Bloomsburg) and first-year
Abigail Umhoefer (Poughkeepsie, N.Y./Our Lady of Lourdes), shut out King's College for a 1-0 MAC Freedom victory on Tuesday, Oct. 18, at McCarthy Stadium.
The win moves the Warriors to 4-2 in MAC Freedom play, their most conference wins since the 1998 team went 4-2-1 in the MAC Freedom.
Umhoefer's goal for the Warriors (10-4-2 overall, 4-2 MAC Freedom) came unassisted in the 32nd minute as she ran in from the top of the box to challenge the Monarchs' goalkeeper and pick-pocketed a pass, allowing Umhoefer a direct shot into the unprotected goal.
The Warriors also hit the post twice and a crossbar once in the second half, as they secured their third-straight 10-win season, extending the school record.
Gerasimoff recorded three saves for her sixth solo shutout of the season, tying the all-time single‐season shutout record set by Jessica Bennett '08 in 2004. It was also the team's school-record 10th shutout of the year.
Bender made 10 saves in goal for the Monarchs.
The Warriors return to the field on Saturday, Oct. 22, when they host MAC Freedom opponent DeSales University at 12 p.m. at UPMC Field.
