Warriors shut down River Hawks to keep the Boot

SELINSGROVE, Pa.- Senior Zack Donoway (Newark, Md./Snow Hill) captured his third straight shutout of the season as the Lycoming College men's soccer team scored in each half to down Susquehanna University, 2-0, in the 20th annual Battle of the Boot on Wednesday night, Sept. 8, at Sassafras Athletic Field.

The Warriors keep the Boot for the sixth straight contest after last year's contest was canceled due to COVID-19, with the winning streak dating back to 2014. The River Hawks lead the series, 10-9-1, but Lycoming's sixth straight win in the series bests Susquehanna's five straight from 2004-08.

First-year midfielder Sean Campbell (Catonsville, Md./Catonsville) struck first for the Warriors, earning his first goal of the season in the 29th minute of the first half. His goal was assisted by sophomore Dylan Sloan (Essex, Md./Archbishop Curley).

After being awarded a penalty kick in the second half, senior Josh Zinngrebe (Bethesda, Md./Walter Johnson) scored Lycoming's second goal of the game, earning his first goal of the season.

Susquehanna goalkeeper Gerrit Stech stopped two of four shots on goal while Donoway saved both shots on goal he faced.

The Warriors return to play on Saturday, Sept. 11, at 1 p.m., when they face Gettysburg College at UPMC Field.
