WILLIAMSPORT, Pa. – As if a three-game sweep wasn't a rocky enough start to the 2021 season, the Lycoming College volleyball team moved out of the way just in time before a glass backboard in Lamade Gym crashed to the ground, delaying the nightcap with La Roche with the Warriors five points from victory. After a slight delay to clean, the Warriors did finish off the 3-0 (26-24, 25-15, 25-20) win over the Redhawks to finish Friday, Sept. 3, after Manhattanville won the opener, 3-0 (25-13, 25-17, 26-24).

The Warriors (1-1 overall) were led by eight kills and two blocks from junior
Elizabeth Kelson (Denville, N.J./Morris Catholic) and both first-year
Ava Coombs (Suffern, N.Y./Suffern) and
Sydney Guethlein (Cincinnati, Ohio/West Clermont) each had six kills, with Guethlein and first-year
Arianna Santos (Oxford, Pa./Oxford Area) each adding three blocks. First-year
Ali Koval (Mansfield, Pa./North Penn-Mansfield) added 17 digs and first-year
Kendall Myers (Mechanicsburg, Pa./Trinity) posted 16 digs and three aces. Sophomore
Megan Starkweather (Wellsboro, Pa./Wellsboro Area) posted 17 assists and first-year
Piper Schwenk (Lyon Station, Pa./Brandywine Heights) had 13.

Bethany Nulph led the Redhawks (0-3 overall) with six kills, Cassidy Rossi had 13 assists, Madison Johnson posted three aces and Sydney Herzer finished with 17 digs.

The Warriors held La Roche to a .059 hitting percentage and received at an excellent .943 clip, allowing just three aces.

Manhattanville (3-0 overall) hit a solid .165 in the opener and notched 10 service aces to post the 3-0 win over the Warriors.

Brynne Bisel (Julian, Pa./Bald Eagle Area) and Kelson each had seven kills to lead the Warriors and Starkweather posted 15 assists and two aces. Sophomore
Gabriella Chaparro Coss (Rio Grande, Puerto Rico/Desarrollo Del Nino) posted three aces and Koval led the team with 17 digs.

Ayla Ruiz led the Valiants with nine kills and three aces and Grace Ballagas led the team with 15 digs.

The Warriors get back in the gym at 12 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 4, when they host Penn State Mont Alto before the event wraps up with the Warriors facing Notre Dame (Md.) at 6 p.m.
