Warriors down Wildcats, 2-0, in Battle for the Lumber

WILLIAMSPORT, Pa. – Freshman Sydney Sellers (Huntingdon, Pa./Huntingdon Area) scored in the first half and junior Bella Green (South Williamsport, Pa./South Williamsport Area) scored in the second, as the Lycoming College women's soccer team won its third straight game with a 2-0 win over Penn College in the Battle for the Lumber on Wednesday night, Sept. 15, at UPMC Field. It was the first night game in the history of the complex.

The Warriors (4-1 overall) got on the board in the 26th minute when senior Alicia Blizzard (Lebanon, Pa./Cedar Crest) took a shot from just outside the box that rebounded off the Penn College keeper's chest and Sellers was there to clean up the action with her second goal of the year.

Lycoming got a big opportunity in the 66th minute when Green was fouled in the box, but Taylor Gonzalez made a brilliant save to her right. However, in the 78th minute, Green found that right corner with a header off a corner kick from senior Jayden Leighow (Hughesville, Pa./Hughesville Area).

Senior Jess Riordan (Vineland, N.J./Our Lady of Mercy) made five saves in the shutout for the Warriors, as she improved to 2-0 on the year. Taylor Gonzales made 13 saves off 21 Lycoming shots for the Wildcats (2-1 overall).

The Warriors get back on the field on Saturday, Sept. 18, when they host Bethany (W.Va.) at 4 p.m., at UPMC Field.
