Penalty kick lifts Warriors over Bombers 1-0

WILLIAMSPORT, Pa.-  In the final seconds of a scoreless game, sophomore Dylan Sloan (Essex, Md./Archbishop Curley) netted a penalty kick goal for the Lycoming College men's soccer team, cementing a 1-0 win over Ithaca College on Sunday evening, Sept. 12, at UPMC Field.

The Warriors (3-1-1 overall) were awarded a penalty kick with 11 seconds left in the second half, after sophomore Julian Elguerra (Ellicott City, Md./River Hill) sent a long ball from 20 yards behind midfield to the top of the box, where sophomore Joe Bamfo (Ronkonkoma, N.Y./Connetquot) heel-touched a pass into the box to first-year Jahci Knick (Chesapeake Beach, Va./Northern), who was fouled hard.

Sloan fired a shot to the right corner of the net, setting off a celebration with 10.3 seconds left. The Bombers (2-3-1 overall) pressed forward in the closing seconds, but couldn't get into the goal box.

Senior goalkeeper Zack Donoway (Newark, Md./Snow Hill) stopped six of eight shots on goal, earning him his fourth shutout of the season, while Warrior defenders cleared two shots off the goalline.

Bombers goalkeeper Josh Koenig had four saves before being relieved by Ian Whitfield with 16 minutes remaining.

The Warriors return to the field on Sept. 15, heading to Lancaster Bible for a 6 p.m., game in Lancaster, Pa.
