Game Recap: Women's Soccer |

Warriors ground Soaring Eagles

ELMIRA, N.Y. – Senior Alicia Blizzard (Lebanon, Pa./Cedar Crest) scored in the first half and senior Hannah Lounsbury (Wassaic, N.Y./Webutuck) scored in the second to lift the Lycoming College women's soccer team to a 2-0 win over Elmira College on Sunday, Oct. 24, at College Field.

The win improved the Warriors to 10-6-1 overall, marking the first time in program history that the Warriors have won 10 games in back-to-back seasons. The Warriors went 10-8-1 in 2019 before the 2020 season was cancelled due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Blizzard became the third Warrior to reach five goals this season in the 42nd minute, when she got a perfect through ball from first-year Sydney Sellers (Huntingdon, Pa./Huntingdon Area) as she sprinted through the defense in transition, getting past the back line and beating the goalie to her left.

In the 78th minute, first-year Emily Shultz (Sunbury, Pa./Shikellamy) got a free kick that hit the ground on the left side of the net, right in front of Lounsbury, who found the front corner with her shot to give the Warriors the security goal. Lounsbury was the 11th Warrior of the season to score a goal, the most for the team since 11 scored in the 2014 season.

The Warriors drilled 33 shots on net in the game, forcing Elmira keeper Nevaeh Winston to post 22 saves in net. First-year Abbey Gerasimoff (Bloomsburg, Pa./Bloomsburg Area) stopped four shots in the first half and senior Bekki Weller (Mifflinburg, Pa./Mifflinburg) played a scoreless second half for the Warriors.

Elmira fell to 3-11-3.

The Warriors get back on the field on Tuesday, Oct. 26, when they host King's (Pa.) at 4 p.m. in a must-win MAC Freedom contest at UPMC Field.
