Warriors top Arcadia for first time in 24 years

WILLIAMSPORT, Pa.- In their MAC Freedom debut, first-half goals from senior Jayden Leighow (Unityville, Pa./Hughesville) and junior Kylie Magaro (Enola, Pa./East Pennsboro) helped lift the Lycoming College women's soccer team to a 2-1 homecoming weekend victory over Arcadia University on Saturday, Oct. 2, at UPMC Field.

The win was the first for the Warriors against the Knights since a 1-0 win during the 1997 season, as the Warriors ended a 13-game winless drought (0-12-1) for the team against Arcadia.

Leighow struck first for the Warriors (8-3 overall, 1-0 MAC Freedom) in the 31st minute from just inside the box off her right foot, assisted by junior Bella Green (South Williamsport, Pa./South Williamsport Area) who played the ball in from midfield.

Magaro put the Warriors up 2-0 just four minutes later with unassisted strike from inside the box.

Arcadia (3-8 overall, 0-1 MAC Freedom) closed the gap to 2-1 in the second half on a goal from Caroline Weirich, assisted by Sheila O'Mara.

Senior goalkeeper Jess Riordan (Vineland, N.J./Our Lady of Mercy) made eight saves with two Warrior defenders also knocking balls off the goalline. Knights' goalkeepers Gabby Green and Julia Mendez made a combined four saves.

The Warriors return to play on Wednesday, Oct. 6, at Wilkes in a MAC Freedom match at 7 p.m. in Wilkes-Barre, Pa.
