McGinniss ties one more mark with OT game-winner

WILLIAMSPORT, Pa. – Senior Kelly McGinniss (Randolph, Pa./Randolph) scored a golden goal off an assist from senior Thamina Peti (York, Pa./West York Area) with 4:33 left in the first overtime for her school-record tying 80th goal of the season to lift the Lycoming College women's lacrosse team to a 14-13 victory over Hood College in MAC Commonwealth action, on Saturday, April 27 at Thomas Athletic Field.

The Warriors (5-11 overall, 3-5 MAC Commonwealth) closed out the 2019 season on a three-game winning streak, including one-goal wins in their final two contests against Alvernia and Hood.

McGinniss' game-winning goal gave her five in the game as she tied the single-season program record set by Grace Gargiulo in 2011 and Meghenn Jackson in 2016. The senior also added an assist, caused six turnovers and won 15 draw controls, extending her NCAA all-divisions single-season record to 239. She is one of three players in Division III history to win 600 draw controls in a career, finishing with 623.

Junior Hailey Kimble (Corning, N.Y./Corning-Painted Post) also found the back of the net five times and Peti added five points (two goals, three assists) and caused a turnover. Junior Alexis Tchou (Mount Airy, Md./Urbana) and sophomore Cecilia Massey (Middletown, Del./Hodgson Vo-Tech) each scored once.

After trading goals out of the break to knot the game at nine, Peti scored her second goal to ignite a Warrior run of four straight goals to earn their largest lead of the game, 13-10, with 10:44 remaining. Massey and Tchou also connected for scores during the run.

The Blazers (9-8 overall, 1-7 MAC Commonwealth) responded with three straight goals in the next seven minutes to tie the game at 13. A scoreless final 3:58 sent the game to overtime and set the stage for the McGinniss' game-winner.

In the first half, McGinniss scored 51 seconds into the contest before the Blazers scored four straight to take a 4-1 lead with 21:04 to go. Kimble scored two straight goals and Peti capped  a 3-0 Warrior run to tie the game with 16:34 left in the half.

Kimble and McGinniss found the net twice each to counter three Hood goals and lead the Warriors into the break with an 8-7 lead.

In net, sophomore Bailey Parchesky (Painted Post, N.Y./Corning Painted Post) stopped six shots in the final 31:27 to earn the win and freshman Jordyn Altland (Hanover, Pa./South Western) tallied five saves in the first 30 minutes.

Danielle Holt finished with a game-high 12 saves and Jess Lyons led the Blazers with four goals.
