Warriors down Nazareth to open Tip-Off Classic

WILLIAMSPORT, Pa. – Junior Elle Jednorski (Forest Hill, Md./Fallston) became the first Lycoming College volleyball player this season to post 20 kills in a match to help lift the team past Nazareth, 3-1, to open the Lycoming Tip-Off Classic at Lamade Gym on Friday night, Oct. 4. Lycoming fell to RIT, 3-0, in the nightcap of the opening day of the tournament.
 
In the first match, Jednorski paced the Warriors (12-9 overall) with 20 kills, hitting .405, as Lycoming hit .283 to post a 3-1 (25-16, 20-25, 25-23, 25-20) win over Nazareth (8-7 overall).
 
Jednorski dropped seven kills in the first set, pacing Lycoming, which hit .370 in the stanza to take the early lead. After falling in the second set, Jednorski paced the Warriors late in a come-from-behind win in the second set, posting six kills in the period before junior Kiannah Titus (Clay, N.Y./Baldwinsville) and senior Alysa McDevitt (Warminster, Pa./Archbishop Wood) blocked an attack to end the period. The Warriors were even hotter in the fourth set, hitting .481 (15-2-27), as Titus and McDevitt each had four kills in the period and senior Katie Hausknecht (Emmaus, Pa./Emmaus) and Jednorski had three.
 
McDevitt finished with nine kills and three blocks, hitting .500, and Titus added eight kills, 14 digs and three blocks. Hausknecht had six kills and four blocks, hitting .385 and senior Emily Morris (Lake Ronkonkoma, N.Y./Sachem North) finished with 44 assists and 13 digs. Senior Lindsay Beck (Quakertown, Pa./Quakertown Community) also added 10 digs.
 
Danielle Synowski posted 16 kills and nine digs and Melissa Newcomb added 12 kills. Jessica Barry finished with 36 assists and 10 digs and McKenzie Hart posted 12 digs, as Nazareth hit .116 in the match.
RIT (8-8 overall) held Lycoming to a negative hitting percentage in the second match as it posted a 3-0 (25-7, 25-14, 25-17) win.
 
Titus led the Warriors with six kills and six digs and Morris had three kills, 10 assists and five digs. McDevitt and senior Lilly Singleton (Hanover, Pa./Delone Catholic) each had two aces.
 
Taylor Higgins and Katie Hobler each had 11 kills for the Tigers, who hit .316 in the match. Brianna Ellis notched 26 assists and six digs and Hobler added nine digs. Maria Simonetti posted six of the team's 15 aces.
 
The Warriors get back on the court with their final match of the Tip-Off Classic on Saturday, Oct. 5, when they face Marywood at 4 p.m. in Lamade Gym.
