Warriors outlast Penn State Harrisburg, 3-2

MIDDLETOWN, Pa. – Senior Darci Warriner (Wellsboro, Pa./Wellsboro Area) had a career-night with 14 kills and 15 digs, hitting a .400 clip, to lift the Lycoming College volleyball team to a 3-2 (25-16, 26-28, 25-11, 25-27, 15-10) win over Penn State-Harrisburg on Thursday night, Oct. 31, at the Capital Union Building.
 
Warriner, moved into the starting role in the match, responded with the career night, which included the final two kills of the evening to clinch the team's second five-set win in as many matches.
 
Senior Emily Morris (Lake Ronkonkoma, N.Y./Sachem North) also had a stellar match, posting 48 assists, 13 digs, seven kills and five aces. Junior Elle Jednorski (Forest Hill, Md./Fallston) added 14 kills in 50 swings and freshman Elizabeth Kelson (Denville, N.J./Morris Hills Catholic) posted 10 kills and three blocks.
 
Senior Alysa McDevitt (Warminster, Pa./Archbishop Wood) added eight kills, two aces and four blocks. The team also had a solid game in the backrow, with senior Lindsay Beck (Quakertown, Pa./Quakertown Community) adding 11 digs and three aces and sophomore Angie King (Cooperstown, Pa./Maplewood) added 10 digs and two aces. Senior Lilly Singleton (York, Pa./Delone Catholic) posted 23 digs, four assists and three aces out of the libero position.
 
After Penn State Harrisburg (14-12 overall) tied the fifth set at eight, the Warriors (17-13 overall) went on a 7-2 run to close out the win.
 
Lycoming started the match on a 10-2 run before Penn State Harrisburg cut the lead to four at 19-15. However, the Warriors closed the set on a 6-1 run. In the third set, the Warriors took a 15-5 after six straight points from King, as Lycoming cruised to the 25-11 win.
 
The Lions held a 24-21 lead in the second set before Jednorski and Warriner smashed down kills and Beck had an ace to tie the set. However, the Lions had two kills to take the 28-26 win. In the fourth set, Lycoming had a 24-21 lead before the Lions rallied back with a 6-1 run to send the match to the decisive set.
 
Melanie Sheaffer led the Lions with 16 kills, both Alyssa Snyder and Alexis Imler had 20 assists and Corrinne Cook had 25 digs for the Lions. Brittany Ebaugh also added nine kills and eight blocks.
 
The Warriors will start their 2019 postseason run on Monday, Nov. 4, at 7 p.m. when they serve as the No. 4-seed in the MAC Commonwealth Championship, hosting No. 5-seeded Lebanon Valley in the first round game at Lamade Gym.
