OWINGS MILLS, Md. – Senior
Tanner Fonjweng (Bear, Del./Glasgow) netted a header in the opening minute and sophomore
Zack Donoway (Newark, Md./Snow Hill) notched his second shutout to lead the Lycoming College men's soccer team to a 1-0 MAC Commonwealth victory over second-place Stevenson University on Saturday, Oct. 19 at Mustang Stadium.
Â
Ball movement led to the game's first goal in the opening 37 seconds. After a throw-in, freshman
Jayson Butler (Bel Air, Md./C. Milton Wright) settled the ball along the left sideline and sent a perfect pass into the heart of the box to Fonjweng, who used a header to redirect the ball to sophomore
Tajhon Willis (Edgewood, Md./Joppatowne). Willis drew two defenders and sent a pass back to a wide-open Fonjweng, who buried a header past the right of the keeper for his second goal of the season for the Warriors  (8-6 overall, 2-2 MAC Commonwealth).
Â
The Warriors' defense did the rest by continuously fighting off a persistent attack, holding Stevenson (10-4-2 overall, 3-2 MAC Commonwealth) to two shots on goal. Donoway finished with a pair of saves in the shutout and Matt Stellitano matched the total for Stevenson.
Â
The Warriors, who moved into sixth in the conference with six points midway through the conference season, are back in action on Tuesday, Oct. 22, at 4 p.m., when they host Albright in a MAC Commonwealth game at UPMC Field.
