#20 Warriors blank the River Hawks to keep the Boot

SELINSGROVE, Pa. – A second-half goal from junior Zach Raut (Baltimore, Md./Sparrows Point) and the third straight shutout of the season from senior Chris Solecki (Hainesport, N.J./Lenape) helped lift the 20th-ranked Lycoming College men's soccer team past rival Susquehanna University in the 18th annual Battle of the Boot on Wednesday night, Sept. 5, at Sassafras Field.

Lycoming (2-1-1 overall) won the Boot for the fourth straight year, having outscored the River Hawks (0-3 overall), 14-2, in the last four meetings. It is the first time that Lycoming's seniors have beaten Susquehanna four straight times, with the only other four-game winning streak happing in 1991, '92, '93 and '97.

Raut broke the tie with the lone goal of the game off a hard shot from the top of the box in the 51st minute. This marked his first goal of the season and second goal of his career, as he was a part of a Warrior offense that controlled play through most of the game, firing 20 shots.

Coming off MAC Commonwealth Defensive Player of the Week honors, Solecki recorded his third straight shutout on the year while making three saves, including a diving one in the 86th minute that helped seal the win.

The shutout marks Solecki's 14th of his career and moves him into sole possession of fourth place in the record books for career shutouts. Solecki has now notched 300 straight scoreless minutes to start the season.

The Warriors played flawless defense, holding the River Hawks (0-3 overall) to just five shots while committing just eight fouls.

For the third straight game, the Warriors were able to lead the game in corners (5-2) and they are now outshooting opponents, 49-19, on the year.

Lycoming returns to action on Friday, Sept., 7, when the Warriors take on Carnegie Mellon at 7 p.m. in Pittsburg, Pa.
