Game Recap: Women's Lacrosse |

Warriors net two goals in final minute for 18-17 win over Bengals

BUFFALO, N.Y. – Senior Caroline Mitchell (Berwyn, Pa./Conestoga) scored the game-tying goal with 42 seconds remaining and sophomore Hailey Kimble (Corning, N.Y./Corning-Painted Post) netted the game-winner 25 seconds later as the Lycoming College women's lacrosse team overcame a four-goal second half deficit in a thrilling 18-17 non-conference win over Buffalo State on Thursday evening, March 8, at Coyer Field.

Moments after Buffalo State (1-1 overall) took a 17-16 lead with 2:09 to play, senior Jordan Lazarich (Deer Park, N.Y./Deer Park) earned a big draw control and with the shot clock ticking below five, Mitchell made a nice move to the inside and found the bottom corner of the net. Junior Kelly McGinniss (Randolph, N.J./Randolph) won the ensuing draw control and 25 seconds later, Kimble netted the game-winner, her third of the game, for the Warriors (2-0 overall) off a free-position opportunity.

McGinniss led four Warriors with hat-tricks as she scored six goals. Lazarich netted five and Kimble and Mitchell each scored three. Sophomore Kayla DiJoseph (Turnersville, N.J./Washington Township) had three assists for Lycoming. Lazarich moved into the top five in school history in career goals, with her third of five scores, as her 148 tallies are 10 shy of the top three.

The Warriors, after Buffalo State scored eight straight goals, including seven in the second half's first 10 minutes, countered with four straight goals of their own to tie the game at 15. Kimble scored the first goal, a free position one and four minutes later, McGinniss added another free position goal. After two straight draw controls from McGinniss and goals from Mitchell and Lazarich, the game was tied with less than eight minutes remaining.

Early in the first half, after Buffalo State tied the game at three with two straight goals, the Warriors came back with two goals in less than 40 seconds. Ten seconds after her draw control, Lazarich scored to make it 4-3 and after McGinniss won another draw, Kimble scored 30 seconds later for the 5-3 advantage.

The Bengals got within one a few minutes later, but three straight free position goals, two from McGinniss and one from Lazarich, and the Warriors held their biggest advantage of the game at 8-4. After Buffalo State scored three straight, Lycoming came back with two in 24 seconds, as McGinniss scored her fourth goal in the first half on a free position opportunity. Moments after she won a tough draw control, freshman Taylor Herberger (Corning, N.Y./Corning-Painted Post) notched her second goal of the season to make it 10-7. The Warriors added another free-positon goal when Lazarich scored her fourth goal of the game to make it 11-7 heading into the half.

Freshman Ayana Hagan (Brooklyn, N.Y./KIPP College Prep) made two saves in nearly 36 minutes of action and sophomore Bailey Parchesky (Corning, N.Y./Corning-Painted Post) made two saves, including one on a free position shot with three minutes to go, in the final 24 minutes.

Lycoming scored 11 goals in 17 free-position opportunities and outshot Buffalo State, 35-27. The Warriors also held a 24-13 advantage in draw controls.

The Warriors return to action on Monday, March 12 at 10 a.m. against Stockton University at Barker Field in Hilton Head, S.C.
