Warriors drop conference opener

WILLIAMSPORT, Pa. – Sophomore Hailey Kimble (Corning, N.Y./Corning-Painted Post) and junior Kelly McGinniss (Randolph, N.J./Randolph) each notched a hat trick for a second straight game, but the Lycoming College women's lacrosse team dropped its MAC Commonwealth opener to Lebanon Valley College, 21-10, on Thursday afternoon, March 29 at the Shangraw Athletic Complex.

Kimble scored three first-half goals and finished with four, while also picking up five ground balls and causing two turnovers, and McGinniss tallied three goals. Freshman Taylor Herberger (Corning, N.Y./Corning-Painted Post) posted the first multi-goal game in her career with two second-half goals. Sophomore Kayla DiJoseph (Turnersville, N.J./Washington Township) totaled three points with a goal and two assists.
After Lebanon Valley (6-3 overall, 1-0 MAC Commonwealth) took an early 3-0 lead in the opening four minutes, the Warriors (3-6 overall, 0-1 MAC Commonwealth) countered with a four straight goals of their own to take a 4-3 lead. The first three goals of the rally came within a 42-second span. Kimble started the run with a diving goal, 24 seconds later, DiJoseph scored and after McGinniss won another draw control, Kimble scored another to tie the game at 3-3. McGinniss scored the go-ahead goal with 17:57 remaining in the first half. Lebanon Valley answered a couple minutes later to tie the game before DiJoseph's fake handoff and flip pass to McGinniss gave the Warriors the lead right back.

Lebanon Valley, though, scored the next six goals, before Kimble scored in the last five minutes and the Warriors went into halftime down by four goals. The Flying Dutchmen scored six of the first seven goals in the second half, before the Warriors came back with two straight goals from Herberger to get within seven, but that was as close as they could get.

Makenzie Kelly led Lebanon Valley with nine goals and an assist while Emma Jones and Veronica Venezia each notched four goals and two assists.

Hannah Oliveras made a save in 18 minutes of action before being relieved by Leah Franklin, who earned the win, making 13 saves in the final 42 minutes.

Freshman Ayana Hagan (Brooklyn, N.Y./KIPP College Prep) made four saves in the opening 22 minutes. Sophomore Bailey Parchesky (Painted Post, N.Y./Corning-Painted Post) made a save in the final 38 minutes.

The Warriors return to action on Wednesday, April 4, when they host Alvernia University in a MAC Commonwealth match-up at 4 p.m. at the Shangraw Athletic Complex.
