Warriors’ quick start leads to rout over Elmira

ELIMIRA, N.Y. – Getting off to a blistering start with two goals in the first 54 seconds and five in the first 3:30, the Lycoming College women's lacrosse team never looked back in a 23-2 rout of Elmira College on Saturday afternoon, March 17, at Ernie Davis Field in a non-conference match.

In the first half, the Warriors (3-2 overall) scored 14 goals, had 25 shots and tallied 13 scores before Elmira took a shot.

Junior Kelly McGinniss (Randolph, N.J./Randolph) and sophomore Hailey Kimble (Corning, N.Y./Corning-Painted Post) each notched hat tricks before halftime as McGinniss finished with five goals, eight draw controls and three forced turnovers and Kimble tallied four goals and three assists. Sophomore Kayla DiJoseph (Turnersville, N.J./Washington Township) notched three goals and two assists while senior Jordan Lazarich (Deer Park, N.Y./Deer Park) added four goals and an assist.

Junior Thamina Peti (York, Pa./West York Area) and sophomore Alexis Tchou (Mt. Airy, Md./Urbana) each scored two goals, as nine Warriors scored and six notched at least two goals.

The Warriors' first two goals in the opening minute came off draw controls, the first one by McGinniss that led to Kimble's first goal and then a draw control by Peti allowed Lazarich to get on the board. McGinniss notched her first goal a minute later and the Warriors led 3-0. Another goal from McGinniss and DiJoseph's first score had Lycoming up 5-0 in the first 3:28 of action.

DiJoseph added another goal a little more than two minutes later before the Warriors put on another scoring onslaught, tallying five more goals in a 4:13 span. Senior Caroline Mitchell (Berwyn, Pa./Conestoga) and Peti each scored their first goals of the game and 11 seconds after Peti scored, Kimble added another and another with 14:42 remaining in the opening half to make it 10-0. McGinniss, sophomore Natalie Schroeder (Edgewater, Md./Annapolis), Lazarich and freshman Taylor Herberger (Corning, N.Y./Corning-Painted Post) finished off the first-half scoring.

The Warriors added nine goals in the second half, including five in the first 10 minutes.

Lycoming outshot Elmira, 40-8, and held a 30-5 shots on goal advantage. Sophomore Bailey Parchesky (Corning, N.Y./Corning-Painted Post) (2-0) played a clean first half, making two saves to earn the win, while freshman Ayana Hagan (Brooklyn, N.Y./KIPP College Prep) made a save in the second half.

The Warriors return to action on Tuesday, March 20, when they host Misericordia University at the Shangraw Athletic Complex at 4 p.m.
