#14 Warriors win school record 10th straight

CHESTER, Pa. – Freshman defender Colin Wieand (Elizabethtown, Pa./Elizabethtown Area) scored two goals in the first half to lead the 14th-ranked Lycoming College men's soccer team to a 2-1 victory over MAC Commonwealth opponent Widener University on Saturday night, Oct. 13, at Leslie C. Quick Jr. Stadium.

The Warriors (12-1-1 overall, 3-0 MAC Commonwealth) have now surpassed the 2003 and 2015 squads for consecutive wins with their 10th straight victory. Seven of the 10 wins during the streak have come by one goal.

The Warriors struck first in the 11th minute when Wieand fired in a goal that was rebounded out after the goalkeeper made a save of a shot by junior Lance Klingler (Bloomsburg, Pa./Bloomsburg).

Wieand added to the Warrior lead in the 30th minute, when he headed in his team-leading fifth goal off a corner kick from senior Jake Webb (Fairless Hills, Pa./Conwell-Egan Catholic). The goal gave Webb his team-leading ninth assist, putting him in a tie for sixth in school history for assists in a season. Wieand, meanwhile, took over the team-lead with five goals.

The Pride (6-7-1 overall, 1-3 MAC Commonwealth) cut the deficit to one in the 80th minute when Kevin Mckenna headed in a cross from Adam Bailey.

Senior Chris Solecki (Hainesport, N.J./Lenape) tallied two saves to pick up his 11th win. John Warwick had one save for the Pride.

The Warriors are back in action Wednesday, Oct. 17, when they have a 7 p.m. start at second-ranked Messiah College at Shoemaker Field in a key MAC Commonwealth matchup.
