ANNVILLE, Pa. – After three straight goals brought Lebanon Valley College to within a goal with 12 minutes left, sophomore
Kelly McGinniss (Randolph, N.J./Randolph) scored the first of three Lycoming College women's lacrosse team goals to help lift the team into a tie for second place in the MAC Commonwealth with a 12-8 win on Thursday, April 13, at Arnold Field.
McGinniss led the Warriors (7-4 overall, 3-1 MAC Commonwealth) with five goals, three groundballs, three draw controls and a caused turnover. Junior
Jordan Lazarich (Deer Park, N.Y./Deer Park) added three goals, three groundballs, a draw control and two caused turnovers and freshman
Kayla DiJoseph (Turnersville, N.J./Washington Township) added two goals and two assists.
Senior
Leanne Shaw (Royersford, Pa./Spring-Ford) added two scores and sophomore
Thamina Peti (York, Pa./West York) added two assists.
After Lebanon Valley (3-9 overall, 2-3 MAC Commonwealth) took a 2-1 lead in the first 10 minutes of the game, the Warriors responded with four straight goals, with a give from DiJoseph to McGinniss giving Lycoming a 5-2 lead with 13:36 left. The Dutchmen cut the lead to a goal at 5-4, but Shaw started a 3-0 run that was finished when Lazarich scored with 1:29 left to make it 8-4 at the break.
In the second half, Lebanon Valley scored four of the first five goals to close within a goal with 12:12 left after the third of three straight goals from Makenzie Kelley. McGinniss took a pass from DiJoseph with 10:45 left to make it a two-goal game and Lazarich and DiJoseph added scores in the final moments to add some insurance.
The Warriors were led defensively by sophomore
Kim Rutherford (Phoenixville, Pa./Phoenixville), who caused two turnover.
Kelley led the Flying Dutchmen with three goals and Emma Jones added a goal and three assists. Jen Eck led the team with three groundballs and two caused turnovers.
Senior
Nicole Gerling (Millstone Township, N.J./Allentown) (7-4) stopped seven shots to earn the win and Hannah Oliveras (3-9) also stopped seven shots in the loss for Lebanon Valley.
Lycoming, which beat Lebanon Valley for the first time since 2010, is now tied for second in the MAC Commonwealth with Albright, as they enter the second half of the conference schedule.
The Warriors get back in action with another MAC Commonwealth game at Alvernia University on Wednesday, April 19, at 4 p.m.
