Warriors down Defenders

WILLIAMSPORT, Pa. – Junior Jordan Lazarich (Deer Park, N.Y./Deer Park) and freshman Mackaella Goodwin (Madison, N.J./Madison) each posted hat tricks to lead the Lycoming College women's soccer team to an overwhelming 9-0 win over Clarks Summit University in non-conference action on Saturday morning, Sept. 3, at the Shangraw Athletic Complex.

Lazarich needed just 19 minutes to finish off her hat trick, as she became the first player in program history to notch three hat tricks in a career and finished the day just two goals shy of the school record of 34 career goals by Bekah Shipe (2005-08). She finished the game with 71 career points (32 goals, seven assists), just one shy of second in the school's career record book, where Kaitlin Horn (2007-10) sits.

Goodwin, meanwhile, playing in just her second career game, added two scores in the first half and one in the second to add her own hat trick, as the pair became the first since Donna Mongiello and Jeneen Covely to post hat tricks in the game, when they did it at DeSales on Sept. 18, 2001.

In addition, senior Nour Hasan (Wilkes-Barre, Pa./Coughlin) became just the eighth player in program history to notch three assists in a game.

The Warriors started the scoring in fourth minute with Hasan finding Lazarich for a breakaway before Lazarich added two more scores in the 18th and 19th minutes. Hasan connected with Goodwin four minutes later on a corner kick that was headed in and Goodwin added another score in the 27th minute.

Junior Devon Mendler (Williamsport, Pa./Williamsport Area) added the sixth and final goal in the first half with a shot from deep outside the box. In the second half, junior Hannah Rinaldo (Minersville, Pa./Minersville Area), Goodwin and senior Olivia Mendler (Williamsport, Pa./Williamsport Area) each added scores.

Junior Joelle Winey (Mifflintown, Pa./Juniata) finished with one save in the shutout, as Clarks Summit took just three shots in the game. Lycoming fired 29 shots, forcing Elysia Hinkel to make 11 saves.

The Warriors get back on the field on Sunday, Sept. 4, when they host Pitt-Bradford at 2 p.m. at the Shangraw Athletic Complex.
