WILKES-BARRE, Pa. – While using a deep and complete bench in two of its matches, the Lycoming College volleyball team also scored a come-from-behind fifth set win in its other match to sweep a quad-match at Wilkes University, downing Clarks Summit and Penn College, 3-0, and Wilkes, 3-2, inside the Marts Center on Saturday, Sept. 3.

The Warriors (3-1 overall) scored eight of the last 10 points in the fifth set to outlast Wilkes (2-1 overall) in a five-set barnburner (25-23, 17-25, 17-25, 25-17, 18-16).

Wilkes took a 9-3 lead in the fifth set, thanks to five points off the serve of Madison Scarfaro and had a 10-4 lead when the Warriors began their comeback. Still, Lycoming was behind 13-8 and 14-10 before a Wilkes service error sent sophomore
Cheyenne Altland (East Berlin, Pa./Delone Catholic) to the service line and she helped Lycoming to three straight points. Wilkes had two more match points, but were denied each time and a service ace by senior
Kristine Jahn (Enola, Pa./Cumberland Valley) led to a match-clinching block by senior
Lauren Fink (York, Pa./West York) to give Lycoming an 18-16 win.

Fink led the Warriors with 12 kills and 12 digs for her first double-double of the year, while Altland added 11 kills and three aces in the match. Senior
Tayler Whitman (New Cumberland, Pa./Cedar Cliff) added 11 kills and two blocks. Jahn added eight kills and nine digs and freshman
Emily Morris (Lake Ronkonoma, N.Y./Sachem North) added six kills, 26 assists and eight digs.

Emily Hepner (Leesport, Pa./Schuylkill Valley) notched 17 digs and junior
Catherine Burger (Royersford, Pa./Spring-Ford) added 13 assists and six digs in the win.

Jamey Mikovich led the Colonels with 19 kills, seven digs and five blocks and Ally Paskas posted 13 kills and 11 digs. Grace Boyle also added 15 kills and Alexis Morgan posted 48 assists. Julie Betke led the team with 12 digs.

The Warriors used 14 players and an outstanding defense that held Clarks Summit (0-2 overall) to a -.090 hitting percentage to cruise to a 3-0 win (25-15, 25-7, 25-19) in the quad-meet opener.

Altland led the Warriors with six kills and four aces and both Whitman and Jahn each added four kills. Fink and Hepner each added three aces, with Hepner leading the team with 16 digs.

Callie Kitowski led the Defenders with seven kills and Jessica Klumbach added eight digs.

Lycoming again used a deep bench in the 3-0 win (25-13, 25-20, 25-21) win over Penn College, with all 18 healthy players seeing time on the floor.

Burger led the team with 15 assists, while freshman
Alyssa McDevitt (Warminster, Pa./Archbishop Wood) led the team with four kills. Burger and Morris each had two aces and Hepner finished with 12 digs.

Sophie Coldsmith led the Wildcats (1-3 overall) with six kills, seven digs and three blocks and Jordyn Smeltzer posted five kills and nine digs. Lauren Slater also added 16 assists.

The Warriors will open their MAC Commonwealth season on Wednesday, Sept. 7, when they host Alvernia University at 7 p.m. at Lamade Gym.
