Warriors draw with Devils

WILLIAMSPORT, Pa. – Despite a flurry of attempts late in the second half, one which flew just high, one which was tipped over the crossbar and one which hit the crossbar, the Lycoming College women's soccer team couldn't dent the twine, as it tied FDU-Florham, 0-0, in non-conference action at the Shangraw Athletic Complex on Saturday, Sept. 24.
The Warriors (5-3-2 overall) pushed pace for much of the latter stages of the second half and got a late flurry of opportunities because of it. In the 80th minute, junior Yasemin Yazici (Gambrills, Md./Arundel) got an open look outside the 12 and sent a shot just over the crossbar. Five minutes later, senior Nour Hasan (Wilkes-Barre, Pa./Coughlin) fired a laser from 15 yards that was just touched over the crossbar by FDU-Florham keeper Annie George. Hasan added another great chance a minute later hitting the cross bar before it was kicked away and after a corner kick, junior Jordan Lazarich (Deer Park, N.Y./Deer Park) headed a ball towards the net that was blocked away.

However, FDU-Florham (3-4-3 overall) was able to keep the game scoreless, as George finished with seven saves in the shutout. Lycoming junior Joelle Winey (Mifflintown, Pa./Juniata) earned her fourth shutout of the season with eight stops, which ties her for fourth in school history.

Lycoming held a 15-14 advantage in shots while drawing seven corner kicks and limiting FDU-Florham to five.

The Warriors close out their non-conference schedule on Wednesday, Sept. 28, when they travel across town to take on Penn College in the Battle for the Lumber at 7 p.m.
