Warriors split matches on second day at invitational

WILLIAMSPORT, Pa. – Hitting a season-best .365, the Lycoming College volleyball team cruised to a 3-0 win over Penn State Harrisburg (25-13, 26-24, 25-15) to cap the Lycoming Invitational after falling in the morning match, 3-0 (25-18, 25-19, 25-23), to Misericordia to finish the tournament 2-2 at Lamade Gym on Saturday, Sept. 10.
 
Senior Lauren Fink (York, Pa./West York) led the Warriors (6-3 overall) past the Lions (3-4 overall), using seven kills, five assists and five digs in the win. Freshman Lilly Singleton (Hanover, Pa./Delone Catholic) added eight kills, five digs, two aces and a block and senior Kristine Jahn (Mechanicsburg, Pa./Cumberland Valley) added seven kills and an ace to secure a spot on the all-tournament team.
 
Both sophomore Cheyenne Altland (East Berlin, Pa./Delone Catholic) and freshman Alysa McDevitt (Warminster, Pa./Archbishop Wood) added six kills, with McDevitt also pitching in three blocks. Sophomore Emily Hepner (Leesport, Pa./Schuylkill Valley) added 10 digs and junior Catherine Burger (Royersford, Pa./Spring-Ford) posted 34 assists and two aces.
 
The Warriors, who finished 44-13-85 for the .365 average, hit .407 in the first set and .450 in the final one en route to the sweep.
 
Katelyn Hossier and Melissa Orlandini each had five kills to lead the Lions, as Kari Ammerman added seven digs. Casey Stump finished with 16 assists and an ace.
 
In the morning match, Misericordia held Lycoming to a .125 hitting percentage and got 13 kills and 14 digs from Michelle Sehested to earn the 3-0 sweep.
 
Fink, McDevitt and Singleton led the Warriors with four kills. Freshman Emily Morris (Lake Ronkonkoma, N.Y./Sachem North) posted 12 assists and six digs and Hepner added 15 digs. Altland led the team with two aces and two blocks.
 
Paige Shaughnessy finished with nine kills and 10 digs, Nicole Tagerty posted 28 assists, seven aces and eight digs and Ariana Gagliardi also posted 10 digs for the Cougars.
 
The Warriors get back on the court on Tuesday, Sept. 13, when they head to Mount Aloysius for a 7 p.m. non-conference match.
